Our March For Babies experience

Posted by Lori | Posted in AWESOME, baby | Posted on 12-04-2010

I have to start by saying that when I suggested to Aaron that we participate in the March of Dimes March For Babies here in town, I never thought that it would snowball into such a huge event for us.  It really started out with me just thinking, “Hey, I wonder if there is a March of Dimes walk here in town.”  Once I noticed it was so close to Porter’s birthday I felt that it would be a great opportunity for us to get out on a Saturday to celebrate Porter’s healthy birth while helping other families.

Little did I know that I would become so passionate about raising money for the cause.  And to my surprise, friends, colleagues and students decided to join us.  Together our team raised OVER $2000 for the March of Dimes!

Here are a few highlights from Saturday:

At home before the march.

Aaaand, we're off!

After we took the first turn on the 3 mile route.

Almost our whole team is in this shot.

Nothing quite says Tallahassee like sprawling Live Oaks laced with Spanish Moss.

We did it!  We were so lucky to have beautiful weather.  I really appreciated everyone who joined our team–most of them just in the last week.  And apologize for flooding my friends’ Facebook feeds with links urging you to donate–I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t really, really care about the cause.  And thank you to everyone who donated and to everyone who urged their friends to donate.  It really made all of the difference!  It is a great feeling to know that we are helping babies and families.  Like this little one who was there with her twin:

Thanks again to everyone who has been so supportive!  I really hope to participate next year!
